Renowned South Indian playback singer Jamuna Rani has passed away at her residence in Bengaluru at the age of 88. She had been suffering from age-related ailments before her death. Her final rites are scheduled to take place in Kallahalli on Thursday afternoon.
Born in 1938, Jamuna Rani began her career as a child artist at the age of seven in the Telugu film Tyagayya. Over a career spanning several decades, she recorded more than 6,000 songs across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam cinema. She was widely celebrated for iconic tracks such as 'Kungumapoove Konjum Purave' and 'Naan Sirithaal Deepavali'.
Throughout her illustrious career, she collaborated with many legendary composers and filmmakers, leaving an indelible mark on the golden era of South Indian film music. In recognition of her significant contributions to the arts, she received the Tamil Nadu government's Kalaimamani Award in 1998 and the Anna Award.
