The Bengaluru water board has officially prohibited the use of drinking water for non-essential purposes, including washing vehicles, gardening, filling swimming pools, and cleaning public spaces. The directive also mandates the installation of water meters to monitor consumption.
Violators of these new regulations will face a fine of ₹5,000. For repeat offenders, the board has warned that water supply may be reduced by up to 50 percent.
