Former India cricket captain Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket. The veteran batter, who represented India in 85 Tests, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is, confirmed his decision on Thursday, stating that he felt the time was right to move on from his playing career.
Since his international debut in 2013, Rahane accumulated 5,077 Test runs at an average of 38.46. He is best remembered for leading India to a historic Test series victory in Australia during the 2020-21 season. His extensive career also included 212 IPL appearances, concluding with a final stint as captain of KKR in 2026. Mumbai Cricket Association president Ajinkya Naik lauded Rahane as one of Mumbai cricket's finest ambassadors, citing his composure and dedication.
Reflecting on his journey, Rahane expressed gratitude to his family, teammates, and fans. While his active playing days have concluded, he stated his intention to remain involved in the sport by mentoring the next generation of cricketers.
